consider drug use as grounds for immediate dismissal.
The Confederation of British Industry has estimated
that eight per cent of member companies - one in 12 - test
job applicants for drugs or alcohol, and getting the job is
conditional on the result.
Ten years ago in the US, only
one in five companies tested for drugs in the workplace. Today,
85 per cent of major US companies test workers and job applicants.

Our View on Drug Testing in the Workplace
Ultimate Detox does not advocate the use of illegal drugs while
on the job. However, we are against drug testing, especially drug
testing in the workplace without good cause. One of the issues of
drug testing is that it does not test for use of drugs while at
work. Drug testing does not test for impairment or intoxication,
it tests for drug metabolites which can stay in the body for weeks
- long after the effects of the drug have worn off.
We believe that each employee should be judged on his/her performance
and productivity alone. What that person does in their own time,
in the privacy of their own home, is their business entirely. Providing
it does not affect their performance at work, then why should it
concern their employer? If companies really wanted to establish if
employees were using drugs in the workplace, there are a number
of alternative tests which can quickly and easily measure things
like
co-ordination
and reaction times.
